Handling your New Instrument Wood Order

When your order arrives, it is best to open the package and unwrap your wood
fairly soon and inspect the wood. Then stack it, stickered and weighted in your
work environment for a couple of weeks to acclimate before working on it.
Products leave our warehouse with a moisture-content of 6% to 8%.

Planers should never be used on any instrument wood.  Planing compresses the
wood fibers and adversely affects its tonal quality.  Sanding is the only method
that should be used to thin the tops, backs, and sides down to correct thickness
and optimize the tones.

If you are new to lutherie you might want to consider taking a class at your local
college, with a local luthier, or attending one of the many schools that offer week-
long classes in instrument building.
